Welcome to Conn Counseling!
What's going on in the Counseling Department?
Welcome!
Hello. I am Robyn Faison, the school counselor at Conn Elementary. As your child’s counselor, the most important part of my job is to ensure that students are safe and successful at school. I am concerned about his/her emotional well-being, academic progress, and personal/social development. There are various programs I may use to reach success in these areas.
The following are provided by the counseling program at Conn:
The following are provided by the counseling program at Conn:
- Short term individual counseling. Typically, I will see a student 2-6 times about a particular school related problem. I will coordinate appropriate times with your child’s teacher to pull them for counseling. Further recommendations or referrals may be given as needed.
- Short term small group counseling. I facilitate groups on various topics throughout the year. Groups are typically in session for six weeks. Selection of group candidates is determined by staff recommendation, student needs and the needs of their peer group.
- Classroom guidance lessons. I visit all classrooms, K-5 to deliver lessons for personal/social, academic and career success. Some topics include conflict management, anti-bullying, career readiness, and academic success.
- I will work collaboratively with students, parents, and teachers to help students who may be struggling with behavior, social, emotional, and/or academic concerns.
- I help to coordinate referrals to outside agencies as needed for students.

Conscious Discipline Skills
Conn Elementary will focus on 7 skills for emotional intelligence throughout the year. The traits are identified below:
COMPOSURE (September)
No one can make you mad without your permission. Teachers teach skills for self-control such as Be a S.T.A.R. (Smile, Take a deep breath And Relax), Draining, Pretzel and Ballooning.
ENCOURAGEMENT (October)
We are all in this together. We focus on building a school family through love and language.
ASSERTIVENESS (November, December)
What you focus on, you get more of. We learn to focus on what we want rather than what we do not want, and to express our wants in our Big Voice.
CHOICES (January)
The only person you can make change is yourself. Teachers focus on building self esteem and willpower in children.
POSITIVE INTENT (February)
See the best in others. We learn to see each other from the lenses of love and take advantage of teachable moments.
EMPATHY (March)
The moment is as it is. We focus on how to accept the moment as it is rather than focusing on "shoulds."
CONSQUENCES (April)
Conflict is an opportunity to teach. Teachers reinforce how to learn from mistakes.
THE SCHOOL FAMILY (May/June)
The School Family
